We often hear about “family planning,” but what does this mean? Family planning is often misunderstood as prevention of pregnancy. But it is a vast term, that refers to the planning of when to have children and the use of birth control as well as other techniques in order to implement that plan. To be very clear, family planning is- to decide how many children you will have; to plan when to have a child and the time interval between children; and to select suitable birth control methods to prevent pregnancy.

Family planning becomes very important when two people are about to start a family. It is joint decision between the husband and wife. And therefore, it is very important for you to consider your as well as your spouse's needs and opinions. For a proper family planning, a couple should have an open communication between the two with rational space for each other's feelings and desires.

Thus, for a healthy and happy family in the future:

• Talk about your desires and aspirations
• Listen to your partner in order to understand his/her needs
• Build trust by respecting each other's feelings and by accepting differences in opinion
